The Westin La Cantera Hill Land Resort is hosting Hill Land Holidays, starting now and running through December 24. My son and I got a piffling preview of the festivities. Some highlights:

  • Visit the North Pole (in the Westin Kids' Club), an elves' playland full of activities. My son picked out a kit to make a vintage jeep. Nosotros glued the pieces together and he signed his proper name on the lesser. He immediately started driving the jeep all over the table and every obstacle he could find, including me. Admission is free, merely some activities have a small fee.
  • Try decorating a gingerbread man at Mrs. C'south Cookie Manufacturing plant in Santa's Village. My son enjoyed spreading the icing, putting rainbow sprinkles on the tummy, and making eyes out of chocolate chips. The consensus among the decorators at the party was the fresh-baked cookies are delicious.
  • Skate at Frost, the synthetic outdoor water ice skating rink. Our friends who tried this had a very Texas experience—ice skating in shirtsleeves under a sunny bluish heaven! A $10 fee includes skate rental and 45 minutes on the fake ice.
  • Arrrgh! Picket Magik Theatre's Pirates' Holiday: Buccaneers in Toyland, a one-act in which the pirates are in charge of making the toys afterward the elves keep strike . . . uh oh. Tickets are $5; children under 3 are free.

The hotel is all decked out for the holidays and looks merely beautiful. The staff are friendly and will help you lot navigate all the choices of vacation activities.

Note: My son and I sampled these activities for free at the invitation of the Westin La Cantera. All the same, the opinions are our own.
